North Korea : Announcement of plans to launch a rocket (16 March 2012)
North Korea has just announced plans to launch a rocket to put a satellite into orbit next month. North Korea must abandon these plans which violate the terms of UN Security Council resolutions 1695, 1718 and 1874, which stipulate that North Korea must refrain from any activity related to a ballistic missile program.
Since space launch vehicles and ballistic missiles use related technology, the launching of a rocket by North Korea would contribute to the development of its ballistic missile capabilities.
North Korea must refrain from any provocation and, on the contrary, comply with its international obligations and the moratorium on its nuclear and ballistic missile activities announced on February 29.
